U.S.-Based Filmmakers & Theatermakers
Attention Artists:
Spring 2026 Grants Applications are now OPEN!
Many developed countries offer funding for the arts, and filmmakers are able to apply for grants to bring their projects to life. The U.S. doesn't offer anything like this!
Our goal is to make it easier for U.S.-based filmmakers to access funding for their independent film projects that are being shot in the United States. It's important that indie film continues to be made, especially in a rapidly changing landscape with more and more media conglomerates, AI-generated content, and social media domination.

FAQ
Who is eligible for a Flatiron Film Project grant?
Eligible filmmakers can demonstrate previous work, are U.S. residents and plan to shoot their projects in the United States with cast and crew made up of majority U.S. residents. There is a special category for projects being shot in Colorado. Proof of residency may be requested.
Can students apply for a grant?
Yes, students and student projects are eligible and should apply.
Is there a particular genre the Flatiron Film Project prefers?
We are partial to narrative film, but documentary projects may apply and may be funded as well. As for genre, we're all suckers for comedy over here! That said, our team looks at the whole of a project, including script, previous works, creative vision, and preparedness when considering where to award funding and will select projects that are thoughtful and make a contribution to humanity.
When will funds be awarded?
Grant recipients will be notified by February 28th, 2026.
