Who is eligible for a Flatiron Film Project grant?
Eligible filmmakers can demonstrate previous work, are U.S. residents and plan to shoot their projects in the United States with cast and crew made up of majority U.S. residents. There is a special category for projects being shot in Colorado. Proof of residency may be requested.
Can students apply for a grant?
Yes, students and student projects are eligible and should apply.
Is there a particular genre the Flatiron Film Project prefers?
We are partial to narrative film, but documentary projects may apply and may be funded as well (in 2026 we supported two documentary projects). As for genre, we're all suckers for comedy over here! That said, our team looks at the whole of a project, including script, previous works, creative vision, and preparedness when considering where to award funding and will select projects that are thoughtful and make a contribution to humanity.
When does the Grants Program accept applications?
Our Spring 2027 Grants Program will open for applications in late October 2026.
When will funds be awarded?
Grant recipients will be notified by March 1st, 2027.
