The koa top adds depth, complexity, and a subtle luminosity beneath the glass Walnut nitrocellulose lacquer finish, giving this SG Custom a rich presence. Koa is a type of hardwood that comes from the Koa tree, which grows exclusively in the Hawaiian Islands. It is highly prized for its rich, warm tones, visually striking grain patterns and limited availability.

  • Acacia Koa, known more commonly as “Koa”, is only found in the Hawaiian Islands and is exceptionally scarce. It is an excellent tone wood and supplies a rich, warm sound for musical instruments.

    Aside from that, Koa is stunning—a real eye-catcher! Known for its iridescent shimmer and luscious color, it can range from tan to warm gold with black and brown accents.

    The Koa top makes this guitar truly special. Only a handful were made by the Gibson Custom Shop and they are very difficult to get.
